Inquiry links anthrax expert to letter attack

The US justice department said yesterday there was "compelling" evidence that a former government bio-weapons expert who reportedly committed suicide last week was responsible for the 2001 anthrax attacks.

Bruce Ivins, a micro-biologist who worked on anthrax vaccines at the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, is said to have killed himself as the justice department prepared to file criminal charges.
