Vestas workers protest at plant closure

On Tuesday night, 30 workers at Vestas, the UK’s only big manufacturing plant for wind turbines, were preparing to spend their second night in the Isle of Wight factory in protest at its impending closure.

The workers – who numbered about 20 at first but were joined by reinforcements slipping through police lines – are demanding nationalisation to save jobs and safeguard the future of low-carbon manufacturing in the UK.
