3i edges into positive returns

3i reported a small positive return in the first half, as the benefit of rising stock markets on the value of its portfolio was offset by falling earnings, weaker sterling and a pension charge.

The UK’s oldest private equity group rebounded from a record loss of £2.15bn ($3.56bn) in the year to March by making a total return of £81m in the six months to September, it reported on Thursday.
