Asia markets rise sharply on China package

Shares in China rose by more than 7 per cent on Monday as government plans to spend $586bn on infrastructure to boost the economy sent prices higher.

Wall Street’s near three per cent rise on Friday also helped Asia Pacific equities across the region to make a good start to the week. Overall, the FTSE Asia Pacific index was 3.2 per cent higher at 168.81.
