Greenberg departure highlights changes

The speed with which the directors of American International Group forced Hank Greenberg to step down as chief executive highlights the radically changed regulatory climate in which the boards of US companies now operate.

Regulators have become much more aggressive about punishing executive wrongdoing and independent directors are much more worried about their personal liability if they are seen to have done too little too late.
