Rogge draws a line under protest issue

The head of the Olympic movement sought to draw a line under China’s clampdown on protests during the Beijng games, saying though it was “unusual” that no-one had been allowed to protest, the issue was a matter for the Chinese authorities.

Jacques Rogge said China had never actually promised the International Olympic Committee it would permit protests, but he had drawn to its attention best practice of previous games which allowed space for demonstrations.
