Gieve will step down from Bank role two years early

Sir John Gieve, deputy governor of the Bank of England, announced last night that he would step down in spring after changes to the Bank's financial stability functions have passed into law, writes Chris Giles .

The move opens the way for wholesale changes at the top of the Bank.
