Darling likely to back CO2 limits on new cars

Compulsory Europe-wide limits on carbon dioxide emissions from new carsare likely to be backed bythe government, the transport secretary signalled yesterday.

Alistair Darling told MPs the government was frustrated with manufacturers' slow progress in producing greener cars and said the time had come to look at mandatory limits.
