Philip Green made history – and probably sparked a wave of envy among other business spouses – when he wrote his wife a £1.2bn dividend cheque in 2005.
It was the UK’s largest dividend payment, a celebration of the success the British retail mogul had achieved with Arcadia, the group of high-street fashion chains he had bought three years before.
