Japanese confidence plummets

Business confidence in Japan has slumped to its lowest level in more than two years as concerns rose about a higher yen and global credit market turmoil.

The Bank of Japan's closely watched quarterly Tankan survey yesterday showed manufacturers' sentiment fell in December to its weakest point since October 2005.
