Treasury reins in MoD spending powers

The Treasury has clipped the authority of the Ministry of Defence to buy equipment as it seeks to tighten up on spending, potentially delaying vital procurement projects.

Until the spring, the MoD was able to approve programmes costing up to £400m independently, after vetting them at senior levels. Now, the Treasury has demanded the right to sanction projects costing over £100m.
