Arla Foods, Europe's second-largest dairy by turnover, has entered discussions to buy the 49 per cent of Arla Foods UK that it does not already own.

Shares in the British milk producer rose 7p, or 12 per cent, to 65p. Arla Foods UK was formed three years ago through the merger of Express Dairies and the UK unit of Arla.
