Regulators may shed light on dark pools

The US Securities and Exchange Commission is cranking up interest in the potential hazards of “dark pools,” the trading systems that do not display quotes in the public quote stream.

Dark pools refer to trading venues that are unavailable to the public, unlike an exchange where securities are traded and price quotations are provided in advance.
