Head of Fiat seeks more time on emission targets

The head of Fiat, theItalian carmaker, yesterday demanded three more years to meet exacting targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions from cars, saying thousands of jobs in Europe could be lost otherwise.

Sergio Marchionne, who is president of the Association of European Carmakers, called for an extension from 2012 to 2015 to reduce carbon dioxide output by a quarter.
