Bank of Canada cuts benchmark rate

The Bank of Canada on Tuesday cut its benchmark rate by half a point, citing concerns about the fallout from the US credit crunch and a projected reduction in the country’s exports.

The key overnight interest rate dropped to 3 per cent, the lowest since December 2005.
