US lawmakers want regulators to close the so-called "London loophole" in crude oil trading amid growing concerns over the role of speculators in record energy prices, write Joanna Chung and Javier Blas .
Carl Levin, a senior US Senator, said last week that one of the problems affecting strong market oversight was US regulators being "kept in the dark" about oil trades done in the London market.
