More economic forecasters predict recession over the next 18 months

A growing number of economists are now forecasting an outright recession in Britain at some point over the next 12 to 18 months - a far cry from the consensus in the late spring that the economy was simply looking at a slower rate of growth.

Among the most surprising revisions in recent weeks has been at Credit Suisse, which had persistently been more upbeat about economic activity than many of its peers but which is now forecasting recession.
