Compromise raises hope for US intelligence reform

A sweeping reform of US intelligence agencies appears set for passage after key Republicans yesterday said their concerns about the legislation had been addressed.

In a compromise hammered out after several weeks of negotiations, the bill will reinforce Pentagon control over tactical military intelligence, resolving concerns raised by the Pentagon and its backers in Congress.
