Zimbabwe criticised over diamond field abuse

A leading human rights group has criticised Zimbabwe over killings, forced labour and torture in a recently discovered diamond field. The report by the New York-based Human Rights Watch on Friday urged Zimbabwe to remove the army from the Marange district in the east of the country where extensive deposits were found three years ago.

The report handed a fresh challenge to Zimbabwe’s prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai after his largely unsuccessful trip to secure economic aid from the US and Europe .
