US governors challenge change on drivers' licences

US governors are rebelling against new federal legislation that requires states to ensure that drivers' licences are not given to illegal immigrants.

Bill Richardson of New Mexico warned at an annual meeting of the nation's governors in Iowa that concluded yesterday that his state would challenge the law on constitutional grounds. “It's a short-sighted, ill-conceived initiative,” he said, according to the Associated Press.
