Geithner set to be confirmed after hearing

Republicans moved on Wednesday to delay the confirmation of Tim Geithner as Treasury secretary after revelations that he failed to pay more than $34,000 in taxes on time.

Barack Obama, president-elect, said he remained confident that the Senate would approve the nomination, and insisted that Mr Geithner had “corrected” his “innocent mistakes”.
