Brookfield pauses amid property downturn

It is a cliché that property developers are eternally optimistic. Yet it is still surprising to hear that Ric Clark, chief executive of Brookfield Properties, has found a silver lining in the credit crunch.

Mr Clark, whose group controls more office space in North America than any other public company, says the tight credit conditions have kept property developers from over-building.
