US stocks rally on rate decision

US stocks ended sharply higher on Tuesday after investors embraced the Fed’s decision to cut rates by a less-than-expected 75 basis points in spite of initial concerns.

The benchmark S&P 500 index briefly gave up some gains after the Fed announcement, but by the end of the day it had surged 4.2 per cent to 1,330.71 points, its biggest one day rally in five years.
