Deal speculation lifts FTSE

Kingfisher was the stand-out feature in a London market that crept higher in very low trading volumes.

Shares in the parent group of DIY retailer B&Q rose as much as 10 per cent in early trading as rumours of a 195p-a-share bid approach from a private equity group swirled through trading rooms.
