Government buries plans for supercasinos

Casinos will have to close their doors for six hours a day, the government has announced, as it formally buried plans for supercasinos in Britain.

Andy Burnham, the culture secretary, did give the go-ahead for 16 smaller casinos in towns such as Leeds, Milton Keynes and Newham in east London, but told MPs there were concerns about the “negative impact” of a Las Vegas-style resort in Manchester.
