New budget chief in bid to fix trillion-dollar hole

The task of managing the world’s first trillion-dollar budget deficit and putting the US on a path to fiscal sustainability falls to Peter Orszag, Barack Obama’s incoming budget director.

His likely approach will be to promote healthcare reform that aims to trim health cost inflation – reducing the cost of government-funded entitlement programmes and improving the long-term fiscal outlook even as short-term deficits mount.
