Irish banking sector to get €10bn boost

Shares in Irish banks put in mixed performances on Monday, after the country’s government said it planned to invest “up to €10bn” ($13.5bn) in the financial sector, in partnership with private investors.

All the same, after a torrid few days for the likes of Anglo Irish, Bank of Ireland and Allied Irish Banks, the government announcement, made late on Sunday, stemmed the decline in the sector’s share prices.
