Pound storms to 26-year high on rates signal

Sterling rose to a 26-year high against the dollar on Tuesday after Kate Barker, a member of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee, questioned the need for a near-term cut in UK interest rates.

The pound rose to a high of $2.0694 against the dollar, surpassing the previous peak of $2.0655 it hit in July.
