EU sugar deal to hit developing countries

Monday’s European Union sugar deal will have a profound impact on sugar producers in developing countries, arguably devastating for some.

The agreed cut of 36 per cent in the EU's guaranteed sugar price will hit particularly hard producers among the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of countries that have benefited from the EU's long-standing and preferential Sugar Protocol and has guaranteed them the EU's inflated sugar price.
