Claims for pay equality swell tribunal cases

The number of grievance claims lodged with employment tribunals surged by a further 15 per cent last year, emphasising the failure of government rules aimed at resolving disputes away from the courts.

A large rise in equal pay claims led by no-win, no-fee lawyers was the biggest reason behind the latest increase in court cases. There was also the first flurry of age discrimination cases following new laws last October.
