Nicolas Sarkozy and Gordon Brown will announce on Thursday joint initiatives on peacekeeping, immigration, the economy and nuclear co-operation in an attempt to set the seal on one of the warmest state visits by a French president in 40 years.
In a speech to the joint houses of parliament, the French leader said the traditional Franco-German motor was no longer enough to drive the European Union, and called the Paris-London friendship “indispensable”.
