Data loss setback for Microsoft

Microsoft and T-Mobile were scrambling on Monday to stem the fallout from a technology failure that has caused some of their US smartphone customers to lose personal information such as contact lists, online calendars and photographs.

The rare loss of customer data is a blow in particular for Microsoft as it seeks to convince consumers and corporate customers it has built secure and reliable systems for “cloud” services, which move computing and data storage to its data centres.
