Small business chief attacks Merkel

The German government is undermining public support for the market economy by pursuing “transparently ­populist” policies, according to the head of one of the country’s largest business federations.

The comment by Patrick Adenauer, chairman of the association of independent entrepreneurs, in a letter to Thomas de Maizière, Angela Merkel’s chief of staff, is the latest evidence of the sharp deterioration in the relationship between business and government in Europe’s largest economy.
