Sony buoyed by European sales of PS3

Sony's chief executive said yesterday the record-breaking success of the Play-Station 3 in Europe rescued the games console from "the perception wars" that bedevilled sales in Japan.

"I think we're close to an 800,000 sell-through in Europe now," Sir Howard Stringer told journalists. "I think the first two days in the UK, £100m revenue changed hands and that's probably the largest consumer electronics sale in history.
