London Transport and the trouser suit

Sir, Yves Saint Laurent did not create women's trouser suits; London Transport did, for a very practical reason ("Pantsuit politics", John Gapper, June 3). In 1941, women bus conductors on double-decker buses demanded that trousers be supplied to their uniforms because when they ascended to the upper deck, a skirt revealed too much.
