Philip Richards is a former army officer but he looks and speaks more like a kindly relative than a trained killer, writes James Mackintosh.

His tactics as a fund manager show little mercy, though. Mr Richards specialises in smaller mining, oil and resources companies, where he has long been able to use the strength of RAB to convince businesses keen for cash into selling him shares at a discount - with the aim of helping the company float then sell out at a profit.
