Chief departs as Avon Rubber issues warning

Delays in finalising a large US government contract forced Avon Rubber to warn that it would record a loss for its half year to the end of March. At the same time it announced Terry Stead, chief executive, was leaving with immediate effect to be replaced by Peter Slabbert, the current finance director.

The group said it expected to make enough profit in the second half to more than offset the first-half loss.
