Police officer charged over G20 protests

A Metropolitan police officer who allegedly struck a female protester at the G20 demonstrations in London has been charged with assault, the Crown Prosecution Service said on Monday.

Delroy Smellie, a sergeant in Scotland Yard’s Territorial Support Group, has been summoned to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 16 in relation to the alleged assault of Nicola Fisher. An allegation from another woman against the same officer was dismissed.
