Cooper opens up clear divide over retirement

There is room for debate over whether the state pension age should be raised faster than currently planned, Yvette Cooper, the work and pensions secretary said on Wednesday.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Ms Cooper emphasised that the government remains wedded to 2026 as the date when the state pension age should be raised to 66, opening up a clear political divide with the Conservatives.
