Economy limping to recovery as savings rise

Britain’s economy appears to be limping towards recovery, according to new data, although the willingness and ability of households to spend freely are likely to be constrained.

The Office for National Statistics on Tuesday confirmed expectations that the economy contracted by less in the second quarter than previously reported, while the CBI’s latest survey found signs that stability was once again returning to Britain’s high streets.
