Baghdad hit by five car and truck bombings

Insurgents detonated up to five car and truck bombs in Baghdad on Wednesday morning in a pre-election surge of violence unusual even for the Iraqi capital.

However, although they resulted in at least 26 fatalities, the bombs reportedly did little damage to their targets possibly an indication of what US officials say is a decline in the military capabilities of their opponents.
