Wincanton, the logistics group, exceeded market expectations for its first half thanks to an improvement in Europe operations, particularly in Germany.

Revenue in the six months to September increased 16 per cent to £1.2bn ($1.9bn), but pre-tax profits dropped from £22.1m to £12m.
