Mexico City's defiant mayor leads march

Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans yesterday joined a "silent" march led by Andrés Manuel López Obrador in protest at a prosecution that could rule the popular mayor of Mexico City out of next year's presidential elections.

The size and largely orderly nature of the march - from the city's Anthropology Museum to the main square, or Zócalo - dealt a severe blow to the strategy of the government of President Vicente Fox.
