Pharamaceutical sector: modest replaces mega

Germany’s pharmaceutical industry may have been diminishing in influence over recent decades, but the result has been to create a sector ripe for mergers and acquisitions in the past few months.

While the cross-border mega-mergers of the last few years have abated, more modest scale transactions have been on the rise. “A big trend is the consolidation of mid-size European, family-owned companies,” says a deals specialist at one pharmaceutical group.
