Blair backs animal testing in medical research

Tony Blair said he backed animal testing in medical research and said the government would consult companies on ways to protect shareholders from being targeted by animal rights activists.

Mr Blair said animal rights campaigns were threatening scientific advances in the UK. His comments came after extremists threatened to make public the names and addresses of private GlaxoSmithKline shareholders.
