ST Ericsson’s new chrome and glass headquarters, in an industrial estate on the outskirts of Geneva, is almost as sterile as a semiconductor laboratory.

There are no pot plants or pictures, protective cardboard adorns the floor of the lift, and staff are still moving in. This is very much a company in the process of being born.
