India court rejects same-sex ban

India’s gay community won a major victory in its fight for equality on Thursday, as Delhi’s High Court said a 150-year-old ban on same-sex intercourse violated fundamental rights protected by the constitution.

The court’s ruling decriminalises homosexuality and while it applies only in the Indian capital, activists said it has national repercussions.
