SOMETHING OLD

i Console table
English

Made around 1780, this console table displays the superb standards of craftsmanship associated with English furniture made during the reign of George III. It consists of a satinwood, demi-lune top with a darker and finely figured central mahogany panel and purple-and-striped kingwood banding. The top sits above a cross-banded frieze housing a central hidden drawer and all are raised on four, gently tapering, square-section legs. This is the English interpretation of 18th-century neo-classicism at its understated, elegant best. £6,000-£8,000. www.richardgardnerantiques.co.uk
