Small companies celebrate decision

The software patents directive has been at the centre of a furious lobbying campaign for more than a year. Many smaller companies and developers were opposed to the legislation, fearing that it would concentrate patents in the hands of a few big corporations and stifle innovation.

Following the rejection of the draft law by the European Parliament, independent technology businesses in the UK declared their satisfaction at Wednesday’s vote.
