European nations avoid tax blacklist

Switzerland, Luxembourg and Austria will not be put on a tax haven blacklist, the German government indicated on Friday, defusing some of the tension that has built up over the issue.

The signal that European states would not be blacklisted follows an announcement by the three countries a week ago that they would adopt international standards on exchange of information, after months of escalating pressure.
